Abington's Town Elections feature one contested race which is for a one-year unexpired term for Water Commissioner. It also features two ballot questions. View a sample ballot.
Question 1: Asks voters to approve a debt exclusion to fund Abington’s portion of the South Shore Regional Vocational Technical School (VoTech) new school building.
Background: On January 25, 2025, voters throughout the school district (nine member towns) approved the project in a ballot election. (See Election Results)
The total cost of the new school project is $276 Million with the district responsible for $166 – 268 Million and the remaining cost paid for by the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
With the project already approved on 1/25/25, Now Abington voters are being asked to fund their share of the financial responsibility through a debt exclusion. The estimated annual cost for the average property owner (average assessed home value of $550,979) would be an additional $286.51.
If this question is rejected, Abington will still be responsible for paying its share of this debt and will have to make cuts within its general operations to balance the budget.

Question 2: Asks voters to approve changes to our Town Charter that were approved at the 2025 Town Meeting. Some of these changes include:
· removing the Police Department from Civil Service (consistent with the police union collective bargaining agreement),
· encouraging the development of policies to further public engagement and transparency
· Changing the name of Board of Selectmen to Select Board
· Expanding the onboarding and continued training for new board and committee members
All changes can be viewed in the Warrant for the 2025 Annual Town Meeting.
