Towns throughout Massachusetts are facing critical budgeting issues. Town expenses, especially labor, talent, and utilities, have sharply increased over the past five years. The drastic increases in the cost of operations, combined with the town's limited ability to increase revenue growth due to Proposition 2 1/2, stagnating state funding, and the end of federal funding through the American Rescue Plan Act, Abington is anticipating significant financial challenges for 2027 and beyond.
To ensure a transparent, inclusive, and collaborative budget planning process, a Fiscal Advisory Committee was established and will begin meeting in September 2025.
We are currently seeking two Abington residents to serve as citizen representatives on the Fiscal Advisory Committee. Meetings will be held monthly in the evening, generally lasting 2–3 hours. Members should expect to be active participants in both planning and public engagement efforts.
If you are passionate about civic involvement, have an interest in public finance, or want to help shape the future of our town, we encourage you to apply. Complete our online Board and Committee application or visit the Town Manager's office at Town Hall.
