Abington, MA — The Town of Abington has established a new Fiscal Advisory Committee to assist in providing clear and factual information to residents regarding the Town’s financial condition and the upcoming Proposition 2½ override proposal.
The Committee’s mission is to educate and advise the public, not to advocate for or against the override. Members will help explain:
How the Town reached its current financial position, including the impact of state revenue limits, rising costs, and historical budget trends.
What the proposed override would fund, and what services would be affected without it.
The long-term implications for taxpayers and town operations under various funding scenarios.
“This committee will play an important role in ensuring that residents have the facts they need to make informed decisions,” said Town Manager Scott J. Lambiase. “Their goal is to help the public understand the Town’s financial realities and the choices that lie ahead.”
The Fiscal Advisory Committee will meet periodically through May 2026, with its first meeting planned for early November. At the initial meeting, members will introduce themselves, receive an overview of the Town’s financial position, and select a Chairperson and Vice Chair to guide their work.
The override proposal will be presented to voters at the Annual Town Meeting on May 4, 2026, with a ballot vote scheduled for May 16, 2026.
