Winter Storm Update

Updated as of Monday, February 23, 2026 at 12 Noon

The Abington Police Department is strongly advising motorists to avoid travel unless it is absolutely necessary due to ongoing hazardous winter weather conditions.

Our officers have been handling motor vehicle accidents and disabled vehicles, including two police cruisers that have slid into snow banks while responding to calls. These conditions are creating dangerous situations for motorists and first responders alike and are significantly impacting our ability to respond to critical emergencies.

In addition, approximately 190 residents are currently without power, and there are two downed power lines within town, further increasing the danger to the public and those responding to emergencies.

Current conditions include:

Roadways that remain snow-covered and untreated in some areas

Poor visibility due to blowing snow and wind

Increased risk to drivers, first responders, and public safety crews

Emergency services and DPW resources being diverted to assist stranded vehicles

Downed power lines creating additional public safety hazards

Every unnecessary trip increases the risk of accidents and delays emergency response times. For your safety and the safety of those responding, please stay off the roads unless travel is essential for an emergency.

As a reminder, to report power outages, please contact National Grid directly. Do NOT call 9-1-1 to report outages.
