Extended liquor licenses

NEWS RELEASE

On June 11, 2026, the Select Board for the Town of Abington voted unanimously, to opt-in under a new State Law that was signed into Law on June 8, 2026, by the Governor, “AN ACT AUTHORIZING MUNICIPALITIES TO OPT-IN TO A TEMPORARY PILOT TO ALLOW FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION IN DESIGNATED DISTRICTS IN SUMMER 2026”. This temporary legislation allows the Local Licensing Authority to extend liquor licenses for pouring establishments by (1) hour through July 31, 2026, based on what hours are on the establishment’s license. For a business to stay open for an additional hour a written letter of request is required to be sent to the Town Manager, Michael Maresco. The Select Board also extended the entertainment license (1) hour for those businesses that have requested to have their liquor license extended by one hour.

The Select Board has also requested that these establishments keep their kitchens open for an additional amount of time to allow patrons the opportunity to have food while drinking. All other rules of operating a liquor license remain in full effect.
