Former Abington Select Board member Kevin Donovan has done something remarkable — he spent years combing through old logbooks, newspaper archives, town reports, and decades of memories to write the 2nd Edition of the History of the Abington Fire Department: 1883–2026.
This 449-page labor of love traces Abington's fire service from its very first formal department, organized on April 28, 1883, through 16 chiefs, countless major fires, and more than 140 years of brave service to our community.
Fire Chief Jack Glynn said it best:
"This is such an amazing gift to both the Town of Abington and the fire department. A copy of this will sit proudly in the time capsule we will prepare for the new station to be opened on the station's 25th anniversary in the year 2052."
The digital version of this book is available. Thank you, Kevin, for preserving this incredible piece of our town's history!
