PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 1, 2026
Attention residents of Abington. The Town has been informed by the Department of Public Health that during routine mosquito testing, mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus. Residents are urged to take precautions when going out during the day and evening. Please use mosquito repellent, wear protective clothing, and avoid outside activities between the hours of dusk and dawn. Please see the additional information below from the Department of Public Health and Plymouth County Mosquito Control.
THE RISK LEVEL FOR WNV (WEST NILE VIRUS) & EEE (EASTERN EQUINE ENCEPHALITIS) IS ELEVATED AROUND ABINGTON. DPH HAS NOTIFIED US THAT MOSQUITO SAMPLES HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR ARBOVIRUS! THEREFORE, we are recommending that the residents of Abington take the following measures.
To avoid exposure to mosquito bites:
Residents are recommended to use mosquito repellents with an EPA-registered active ingredient
Restrict outdoor activities by avoiding peak mosquito activity at dusk and dawn
If residents need to be outside during these time periods, it is recommended that they wear long-sleeved clothes to avoid exposing their skin
make sure to empty any container with a stagnant body of water near and around your home. Thank you.
