Abington, MA — August 29, 2025 — On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 10:48 p.m., the Abington Police Department received an alert from the Flock License Plate Recognition system on Brockton Avenue indicating that a black Honda Civic, reported stolen out of Boston, had entered town. Officers immediately began efforts to locate the vehicle. Three minutes later, a second alert was received from Bedford Street, confirming that the stolen Honda Civic was still in the area.
Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Route 18 and Route 139. When the driver, later identified as Jaylin Gilliard-Milton, a 24-year-old man from Boston, saw the police lights, he pulled into the Abington Sunoco, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot. Officer Fitts pursued Gilliard-Milton and apprehended him a short distance away. He was taken into custody without incident. Because the vehicle had not been placed in park, it continued moving and struck the building, causing minor damage to both the structure and the vehicle.
A passenger, later identified as Jaiquan Gilliard, a 22-year-old man from Taunton, also fled on foot. Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police, who were in the area at the time, located him lying in a mulch bed on North Avenue. A second passenger, Kanihalea Washington, 20, of Brockton, remained in the vehicle and was arrested without incident.
All three individuals have been charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle. In addition:
Jaylin Gilliard-Milton has also been charged with failure to stop for a police officer, resisting arrest, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and operating after suspension.
Jaiquan Gilliard will also be charged with resisting arrest.
No serious injuries were reported among the suspects or the officers involved in the incident. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
