In response to a recent arrest made by the Cohasset Police Department involving a covert recording device discovered in a public library restroom in Cohasset, the Abington Police Department took immediate precautionary measures to ensure the safety and privacy of its residents.

Upon learning of the incident, Abington Public Library Director Deborah Grimmett quickly recognized the individual as a contracted IT service provider who had previously performed work at the Abington Public Library and immediately notified the Abington Police Department.

Understanding the gravity of this situation, and prior to the library opening today, the Abington Police Department, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Technical Services Unit, conducted a comprehensive sweep of the Abington Public Library. Specialized technology was utilized to detect the presence of any unauthorized recording devices within the facility.

No recording devices or suspicious equipment were located during the sweep.

While there is no indication of any wrongdoing in Abington, we took this matter seriously and acted swiftly to provide reassurance to the community. We commend the Library Director for her swift recognition and decisive action, which helped ensure a rapid and thorough response.

The Abington Police Department will continue to work closely with regional law enforcement partners and encourages anyone with concerns to contact the department directly.
