FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Motor Vehicle Crashes into Residence on High Street

**UPDATE June 15th, 2026 2:00 p.m.

Following the ongoing investigation into the motor vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 9:05 p.m. on High Street, the Abington Police Department has filed criminal charges against the operator of the vehicle.

Derek Walsh, 54, of Abington, has been charged with:

  • Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (OUI)

  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle

  • Marked Lanes Violation

  • Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit

  • Failure to Wear a Seat Belt

Walsh is scheduled to be arraigned on June 22, 2026, in court.


On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 9:05 p.m., the Abington Police Department and the Abington Fire Department responded to the area of High Street following a report of a motor vehicle that had crashed into a residence.

Upon arrival, first responders located a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck the home, causing damage to the structure. The operator of the vehicle was transported to South Shore Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The occupants of the residence were inside the home at the time of the crash and were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Abington Police Department. No further information is being released at this time.
