The Abington Police Department is proud to announce that it has been recognized with AAA's 2026 Silver Award, honoring the Department's continued commitment to improving roadway safety through proactive enforcement, education, and community engagement.

This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our officers and supervisors who work throughout the year to identify traffic safety concerns, address dangerous driving behaviors, and promote safer roadways for motorists, pedestrians, and all who travel through our community.

In addition to the Department's recognition, we are especially proud to announce that Sergeant Christopher Sanderson was named a recipient of the 2026 AAA Traffic Safety Hero Award, recognizing his outstanding dedication, leadership, and contributions to traffic safety in Abington.

Sergeant Sanderson has played an instrumental role in advancing the Department's traffic safety initiatives through data-driven enforcement strategies, professional development, and proactive leadership.

Each month, Sergeant Sanderson reviews and analyzes traffic data to identify areas of concern, establish enforcement priorities, and direct patrol resources where they can have the greatest impact. His efforts have strengthened the Department's approach to traffic enforcement by focusing on specific roadway concerns and promoting safer driving behaviors.

In 2025, Sergeant Sanderson completed NHTSA traffic safety grant programming and continued seeking additional resources, enforcement campaigns, and educational opportunities to enhance the Department's traffic safety efforts. He has also pursued specialized training in commercial motor vehicle enforcement and crash reconstruction to further strengthen the Department's capabilities.

His commitment extends beyond traditional traffic enforcement. Sergeant Sanderson routinely identifies and addresses roadway safety concerns associated with construction projects, recognizing the importance of protecting motorists, pedestrians, construction workers, and others who share our roadways.

These recognitions are a testament to the Department's continued commitment to traffic safety and the leadership of individuals like Sergeant Sanderson, whose dedication helps make a meaningful difference in our community.
