Excise tax is paid every year, on vehicles registered in Massachusetts. It’s paid to the City/Town where the car is garaged, and most are usually mailed out in February. (It’s been the law for over 40 years!)
If you've gotten rid of a vehicle, please contact the Assessors office (781-982-2107) to find out about an excise abatement.
Never ignore an excise tax bill.

A Message from Fire Chief Jack Glynn:
Mother Nature is making it clear she is far from done with us this winter.
The updated forecasts is that snow totals for our area will be 16-24” of heavy, wet snow with blizzard conditions and wind gusts of 50-60mph.
In our experience, there are a few things that we want to make you aware of. Heavy, wet snow creates many more problems than the light, powdery snow we received in the big storm earlier this season.
1. This type of snow is known as “Heart Attack Snow”. The snow is extremely heavy and when you are shoveling, it is imperative that you take frequent breaks.
2. Snowblowers get clogged easier. If it gets clogged, shut it down completely and even when shut down, DO NOT REACH INTO THE AUGER, EVEN WHEN SHUT DOWN.
What most people don’t understand, but we see is that when a snowblower gets clogged, it clogs under pressure during the rotation. What that does is creates a reflex effect and when the snow begins to be removed, the auger acts like an elastic band and snaps forward when its free. Most of the snowblower accidents we respond to are caused while unclogging the auger.
The majority of snowblowers come with a plastic scoop/stick to unclog it. Obviously, it’s better to snap the plastic stick than cause injury to a hand.
3. Heavy, wet snow with high winds bring trees and power lines down causing power outages. Please charge cell phones in advance.
Our department will be here as always.

Be prepared in this cold weather! Here are tips from National Grid
As we monitor the current forecast, with extremely cold temperatures expected overnight and through tomorrow, National Grid wishes to remind our customers to:
• Clear all vents of snow and ice to prevent equipment malfunction and dangerous carbon monoxide buildup.
• Remove icicles and snowbanks around meters and pipes to avoid damage that could lead to gas leaks.
• Ensure carbon monoxide safety by installing CO detectors, checking heating systems and chimneys, and never using stoves, generators, or vehicles in enclosed spaces.
• Be alert for signs of hypothermia, especially among older adults, infants, and those in colder indoor environments; call for medical help immediately if symptoms appear.
• If you smell gas, act fast—leave immediately, avoid using switches or phones, and call 911 or National Grid’s emergency number from a safe location.
