The Greenscapes Guide to Lawn Care offers simple seasonal tips to help residents maintain beautiful lawns while protecting local water quality and reducing unnecessary watering and fertilizer use.
Some easy spring reminders:
✔️ Test your soil before adding fertilizer
✔️ Leave grass clippings on the lawn
✔️ Set mower height to 3 inches
✔️ Water only when needed using the “Walk Test”
✔️ Consider native and drought-tolerant plants
Did you know? In most years, lawns do not need watering before Memorial Day!
Small changes at home can make a big difference for Abington’s environment and waterways. Check out the flyer for lawn care tips throughout the year. 🌎

Did you know that simple lawn care practices can help protect Abington’s ponds, streams, and groundwater? Excess fertilizer and overwatering can wash nutrients into local waterways, leading to algae blooms and water quality issues.
A few easy tips for a healthier lawn and cleaner water:
✔️ Water only as needed — about 1” per week
✔️ Mow grass at least 3” high
✔️ Leave grass clippings on the lawn
✔️ Test your soil before applying fertilizer
✔️ Avoid fertilizing before heavy rain
Together, we can keep our lawns green and our water clean. 💧

Thank you to all of our residents who attended Town Meeting. Our form of Town Government relies on the participation of our residents. To prepare for the upcoming Special Election, we will be sharing additional educational resources like this one. This chart breaks down the tax impact for each ballot question.

At our Annual Town Meeting on May4, voters will be asked to vote on two budgets in Article 13: Part 1 is level-funded, and Part 2 is level-service, requiring a Proposition 2 1/2 override.
Article 13 Part 1 is a level-funded budget that would maintain the same spending as FY2026 and would result in major, impactful cuts felt by residents.
Article 13 Part 2 is a level-service budget that would maintain the same services and staffing. To maintain services, voters must authorize a Proposition 2 1/2 override to address the $3.4 million deficit.
If Town Meeting voters approve the level-service budget, it must also pass at the polls at a Special Election on May 16 to be put into effect.
Town Manager Michael Maresco created this chart to educate voters on the impact an override will be felt on their property tax bills.
